I use "Roxio Easy CD & DVD Burning" on my Windows 7 machine, it has some other audio/video/disc goodies included, normally sells for $30 but I got it at BestBuy on sale for $15 last summer.

Free is best, for sure. Especially when you're broke (like me), but I couldn't resist that $15 sale price on Roxio. I'd use some kind of Linux OS full-time if they had easy and decent video editing software though. Until something like that appears, I'll keep Windows on my main machine.

Well, I tried using itunes and now I'm getting a message that says "not a file, can't burn files that aren't on your hard drive". I tried moving files around etc and still get the same message. I don't get it.

Apparently my computer doesn't want me to do any burning.

My advice--get an iPod.

-You can listen to it in the car via headphones
-You can listen to it anywhere, such as while hiking
-No need to change discs.

I've had a million disc burner errors just like you, and trust me, I am GLAD to have moved past the 'disc' era! :)

Based on the iTunes error message you've reported, it sounds like you're mistakenly trying to burn a stream. See, when you stream a show from the archive, the files also pop up in iTunes, but you can't do anything with them

Are you sure that you're downloading those AUDs correctly and not just streaming them?

Hey ice9...

I got an ipod for xmas. Not sure if or when I ever would've gotten one on my own cuz I didn't think I'd have much need for it. It's the ipod shuffle, just baby steps for me. ;)

As far as I know I'm downloading correctly. The "files" are in my "system" and they'll play in itunes and windows media etc, just can't burn them. As I said, I've burned a couple auds before onto disc but for some reason it just ain't lettin me do it now. There must be something in my OS or whatever that's preventing it.

I did finally manage to burn a "master file"/backup to a data disc but of course it won't play on anything else. Bizarre.

Of course at this point I'm wondering what I'm even bothering for.

I appreciate the help though folks ~ Thanks :)

The download VBR's are a ZIP file in case anyone forgot. If you unzip them they should be burnable.

Hey Edsel ~ Thanks for the reply.

I did remember that I had to extract files to a program. I haven't really done much of the cd burning thing so that's part of the problem I know ;)

I've been able to get them burned on my work computer and I was able to do it on my home pc before but for some reason my home pc stopped letting me do it. I have no idea why.

That being said, I realize now that the ipod is a much better route.

I stand by my advice--use the Pod!

I worked in a college IT department for 4 years, fixing student computers (while a student). I fixed MANY, MANY problems. But CD writer drive problems? Not worth it.

--Could be your computer's got a screw (or transistor) loose (ie impossible to fix bc
--could be you need to reinstall drivers
--could be a flaw in kernel (impossible to fix)
--could be that you used one burning software at one point and then another, and the transfer wasn't clean, causing a missed connection in the registry
--could be any number of other registry related issues which are a devil to fix and can inadvertently destroy your OS while fixing if you aren't a computer expert (and no offense intended but...)

So, you could take it to the local computer repair place, wait a day, have em try to fix it (55% chance of success) or just use an iPod and
-never worry about CDs again
-AND have more music with you
-AND have music available at all times
-AND have less technical problems
-AND have a more durable (ie you can drop it on pavement[don't do this]) portable music solution.

That's my opinion.

Yes sir, I agree and I appreciate your time and effort.

I'm only left to assume there's a bug in my processes somehow, somewhere.

Getting too aggravating and what fun is that? ;)

Now I just need to take my ipod to the next level!

Peace!
